The Inimitable Jeeves
The novel that proved Jeeves was not just a valet—he was a force of nature.
P.G. Wodehouse’s first Jeeves novel (though really a collection of linked short stories) is a masterpiece of comic chaos—a book about a bet, a burglary, a blackmail scheme, and the one man who can untangle all of them without wrinkling his trousers.
Bertie Wooster, the amiable idiot of London’s Drones Club, has agreed to help his friend Bingo Little propose to the girl of his dreams. The girl’s uncle is a fearsome clergyman who disapproves of love. The girl’s aunt is a formidable woman who disapproves of everything. Bingo is hopeless. Bertie is helpless. Enter Jeeves, who solves the problem with the quiet efficiency of a man who has seen it all before. The novel (or story cycle) continues through a series of disasters: a bet about a fish, a burglary gone wrong, a scheme to blackmail an aunt, and a performance of a musical comedy that nearly ends in disaster. Through it all, Jeeves remains calm, omniscient, and impeccably dressed.
This is Wodehouse at his most inventive and hilarious: the book that cemented Jeeves as one of the great characters of English literature. The Inimitable Jeeves is pure joy from start to finish.

About the Author
P.G. Wodehouse (1881–1975) was an English author and one of the most celebrated comic writers of the twentieth century. Born in Guildford, Surrey, he was educated at Dulwich College and worked briefly in a bank before becoming a full-time writer. He wrote more than ninety books, including the Jeeves and Wooster series, the Blandings Castle series, and numerous short stories, plays, and musicals. The Inimitable Jeeves was his first full-length book featuring Jeeves, following the short story collections My Man Jeeves (1919) and the earlier magazine stories. The novel was adapted into a 1970s television episode and later into a radio drama. Wodehouse moved to the United States in the 1930s and became an American citizen. He was awarded the Mark Twain Prize for Humor and was made a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire shortly before his death. He is buried in Remsenburg, New York.
