Bertie Wooster decides to solve everyone’s problems himself. Jeeves watches. Jeeves waits. Jeeves is right.

P.G. Wodehouse’s funniest novel is a masterpiece of comic disaster, a story about the dangers of self-confidence, the folly of good intentions, and the one man who can fix everything, provided his master does not get in the way.

Bertie Wooster returns from France to find that his valet, Jeeves, has given notice. The reason: Bertie has purchased a white mess jacket with brass buttons, and Jeeves cannot abide it. Before Bertie can resolve the fashion crisis, he is summoned to the country estate of his aunt, Dahlia Travers, where chaos reigns. Gussie Fink-Nottle, a newt-fancier, is too shy to propose to his beloved Madeline Bassett. Tuppy Glossop has been jilted by his fiancée, Angela, Bertie’s cousin. And Aunt Dahlia has lost a fortune at baccarat. Bertie, brimming with confidence, decides to handle everything himself. He gives Gussie romantic advice. He gives Tuppy motivational speeches. He delivers a speech at a prize-giving ceremony. Everything goes wrong. Jeeves, who has been watching from the wings, quietly solves every problem—including the white mess jacket.

This is Wodehouse at his most structurally perfect: a novel in which every sentence lands, every plot twist delights, and every reader finishes with a smile. Right Ho, Jeeves is widely considered the finest of the Jeeves novels.

About the Author

He wrote more than ninety books, including the Jeeves and Wooster series, the Blandings Castle series, and numerous short stories, plays, and musicals. Right Ho, Jeeves was published in 1934, during what many critics consider Wodehouse’s golden period. The novel was adapted into a 1970s television episode and later into a radio drama. Wodehouse moved to the United States in the 1930s and became an American citizen. He was awarded the Mark Twain Prize for Humor and was made a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire shortly before his death. He is buried in Remsenburg, New York.
