My Man Jeeves
“I am not a peppery man. But when I see a valet who has been with me for five years smirking at me in that manner, I confess to a certain warmth of the blood.”
The book that introduced the world to Jeeves—the most famous valet in English literature—and his hapless employer, Bertie Wooster. A collection of eight stories, four featuring Jeeves and four featuring the equally inept Reggie Pepper, in which nothing goes right until a butler or a valet quietly fixes everything.
Bertie Wooster, a cheerful, wealthy, and utterly helpless young man about town, is perpetually entangled in the romantic disasters of his friends, the legal troubles of his aunts, and the consequences of his own good intentions. Enter Jeeves, a man of extraordinary intelligence, encyclopedic knowledge, and impeccable tact. Jeeves solves everything—the engagement Bertie cannot break, the scandal Bertie cannot hide, the check Bertie cannot cash—while Bertie, who believes himself to be the master, takes the credit. The stories are pure Wodehouse: plots as intricate as Swiss watches, prose as sparkling as champagne, and jokes that land like clockwork.
This is Wodehouse at his most effervescent and enduring: the birth of a comic partnership that would delight readers for decades. My Man Jeeves is the perfect introduction to the world of Bertie and Jeeves—and the perfect reminder that the butler does not do it. The butler fixes it.

About the Author
P.G. Wodehouse (1881–1975) was an English author and one of the most celebrated comic writers of the twentieth century. Born in Guildford, Surrey, he was educated at Dulwich College and worked briefly in a bank before becoming a full-time writer. He wrote more than ninety books, including the Jeeves and Wooster series, the Blandings Castle series, and numerous short stories, plays, and musicals. Wodehouse moved to the United States in the 1930s and became an American citizen. During World War II, he was interned by the Germans and made a series of broadcasts that damaged his reputation in England. He never returned to live there. Despite this, he is beloved in Britain and around the world for his comic genius. My Man Jeeves was his first collection of Jeeves stories; he would continue writing about the pair until his death in 1975. He was awarded the Mark Twain Prize for Humor and was made a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire shortly before his death. He is buried in Remsenburg, New York.
