The merciless sea. A family bound by love, betrayal, and tragedy.

In Flor de Mayo, Vicente Blasco Ibáñez delivers a powerful and vivid portrait of the hard lives of fishermen in the coastal district of El Cabañal near Valencia. The novel follows the struggles of the Retor’s family—impoverished fishermen who battle the treacherous Mediterranean for survival. Amid the daily fight against poverty and the unpredictable sea, personal passions erupt: jealousy, infidelity, and simmering rivalries threaten to tear the family apart. The proud fishing boat named Flor de Mayo becomes both a symbol of hope and the instrument of their fate in a gripping story of human resilience, desire, and inevitable tragedy.
