A vision that changed history. A call for a Jewish homeland.

In The Jewish State, Theodor Herzl lays out his revolutionary blueprint for the establishment of a modern Jewish state as the only viable solution to centuries of persecution and antisemitism in Europe. Written with urgent clarity and compelling logic, Herzl argues that the Jewish people must take their destiny into their own hands by creating an independent nation, complete with its own government, economy, and institutions, where they can live in dignity and security. Far from a mere dream, Herzl offers practical proposals for organization, finance, immigration, and governance that would later inspire the Zionist movement and the founding of the State of Israel.

This foundational political manifesto remains one of the most important and influential documents of modern Jewish history and 20th-century nationalism.

About the Author

Theodor Herzl (1860–1904) was an Austro-Hungarian Jewish journalist, playwright, and political activist. Widely regarded as the father of modern political Zionism, Herzl became convinced of the need for a Jewish state after witnessing the Dreyfus Affair in France. His tireless advocacy and organizational efforts laid the groundwork for the Zionist Congresses and ultimately the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948.
