Simply Chomsky
Universal grammar, media critique, and the limits of power—simply told.
In Simply Chomsky, Raphael Salkie offers a clear and accessible guide to the ideas of Noam Chomsky, one of the most influential thinkers in modern linguistics and political thought. Within its concise format, the book presents both the scientific and intellectual dimensions of Chomsky’s work.
Salkie explains key concepts in linguistics, including universal grammar—the idea that the capacity for language is an innate feature of the human mind—and the structural principles that underlie how sentences are formed and understood. The study also touches on Chomsky’s broader intellectual influence, particularly his critiques of media, power, and political systems, situating his linguistic theories within a wider framework of inquiry.
This is not a book for linguistics specialists alone. It is an invitation: a guide for the curious reader who has heard of Chomsky but does not know where to begin. Salkie walks the reader through the essential ideas—from the generative grammar that revolutionized linguistics to the sharp political analyses that made Chomsky a global icon of dissent.
