Our Sea
The Mediterranean. A sea of love, war, and betrayal.
In Our Sea (Mare Nostrum), Vicente Blasco Ibáñez delivers a sweeping and dramatic novel set during the First World War. The story follows Ulysses Ferragut, a passionate Spanish sea captain, who becomes entangled in a dangerous romance with a mysterious German woman, Freya, while the Mediterranean—“Our Sea”—becomes a theater of naval warfare, espionage, and submarine attacks. Torn between love, patriotism, and the call of the ocean, Ferragut must navigate the turbulent waters of desire and duty as the war threatens everything he holds dear.
With vivid maritime descriptions, emotional intensity, and Blasco Ibáñez’s signature realism, this novel powerfully captures the human drama unfolding across the Mediterranean during one of history’s greatest conflicts.
