Jeeves Stories
The most famous valet in English literature. The most hapless master ever to wear a mess jacket. And the funniest partnership ever written.
P.G. Wodehouse’s Jeeves stories are among the greatest comic works in the English language—a series of short masterpieces in which nothing goes right until a quiet, omniscient, impeccably dressed gentleman’s gentleman fixes everything.
Bertie Wooster, a cheerful, wealthy, and utterly helpless young man about town, has a genius for getting into trouble. His aunts want him married. His friends want him to lend them money. His own good intentions lead to engagements he cannot break, scandals he cannot hide, and checks he cannot cash. Enter Jeeves: tall, bald, and omniscient. Jeeves knows everything—from the proper way to tie a cravat to the proper way to dispose of a body. He is never flustered. He is never wrong. He is, in short, the perfect gentleman’s gentleman. Across dozens of stories—collected in My Man Jeeves, Carry On, Jeeves, and The Inimitable Jeeves—Jeeves rescues Bertie from aunts, artists, American heiresses, and the terrifying prospect of having to think for himself.
This is Wodehouse at his most effervescent and enduring: plots as intricate as Swiss watches, prose as sparkling as champagne, and jokes that land like clockwork. The Jeeves stories are pure joy—books to read when the world feels heavy, and you need to laugh.

About the Author
P.G. Wodehouse (1881–1975) was an English author and one of the most celebrated comic writers of the twentieth century. Born in Guildford, Surrey, he was educated at Dulwich College and worked briefly in a bank before becoming a full-time writer. He wrote more than ninety books, including the Jeeves and Wooster series, the Blandings Castle series, and numerous short stories, plays, and musicals. Wodehouse first introduced Jeeves in the 1915 short story “Extricating Young Gussie,” published in The Saturday Evening Post. The character proved so popular that Wodehouse returned to him again and again, writing Jeeves stories for five decades. Wodehouse moved to the United States in the 1930s and became an American citizen. He was awarded the Mark Twain Prize for Humor and was made a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire shortly before his death. He is buried in Remsenburg, New York.
