Fame made him a legend. Pride threatened to destroy him.

In Blood and Sand, Vicente Blasco Ibáñez delivers a sweeping novel of ambition, passion, and tragedy set in the dazzling and dangerous world of Spanish bullfighting. The story follows Juan Gallardo, a humble young man who rises from poverty to become Spain's most celebrated matador. But as wealth and fame transform his life, Juan is drawn into a passionate affair that threatens his marriage, his honor, and the future he fought so hard to achieve. Against the backdrop of packed bullrings and the traditions of Andalusia, Blasco Ibáñez explores the intoxicating lure of celebrity, the price of ambition, and the fragile line between triumph and ruin. Rich in atmosphere and psychological insight, Blood and Sand remains one of the great novels of Spanish literature.
