Bookkeeping Intern

Bring financial clarity to storytelling! We’re seeking a detail-oriented bookkeeping intern passionate about numbers and operations to assist with royalty tracking, expense management, and financial reporting for book sales across Amazon, IngramSpark, and distributors.
This unpaid educational internship follows U.S. Department of Labor FLSA guidelines, prioritizing your learning as the primary beneficiary with hands-on training tied to your formal education (academic credit required).
Assist in reconciling sales reports from distributors, tracking royalties, and organizing expense receipts via QuickBooks or Google Sheets.
Receive structured training in publishing finance (e.g., royalty calculations, P&L basics, sales tax for ebooks/print) with iterative feedback like classroom critiques.
Prepare basic financial summaries, categorize transactions, and research best practices; work complements our team under close supervision.
Enrolled in accounting, finance, business, or related program; must be able to receive academic credit.
Proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets, QuickBooks Online (or similar); basic understanding of financial statements.
Passion for books/operations, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, open to feedback for remote Zoom/Trello work.
Portfolio-ready financial projects (anonymized reports/samples) for your resume.
Stipend-eligible via school programs (e.g., Barnard BBIP, Duke Funding, CUNY Magner)—include details in applications.
Mentorship from publishing pros, free books, references; flexible remote hours in a book-loving team. No paid role entitlement post-internship.
